Garter stitch pattern probably the easiest stitch pattern to come by. It is often referred to as “plain knitting” because every row is knitted or purled. This produces a reversible fabric with raised horizontal ridges on both sides of the work.

The pattern is easy and simple – simply Garter stitch! To knit garter stitch in the round, knit all the stitches in one round, then purl all the stitches in the next. Repeat this two-round pattern.

Garter stitch is looser then stockinette stitch. It does not curl, so it can be used on its own for bands and borders (like on this baby cardigan).

Garter stitch is very popular; perfect for any project and for any beginner.
